Endometriosis Excision Cost Study
The Women’s Health Research & Action Center is developing a national mixed methods study examining the financial burden of endometriosis excision surgery in the United States.
Although excision surgery is considered the gold-standard treatment for endometriosis by many patients and specialists, individuals often face substantial out-of-pocket costs related to surgery, travel, insurance barriers, recovery, and ongoing care. Many of these costs are fragmented across providers and payment systems, making the true financial burden difficult to quantify.
Areas of Interest:
Out-of-pocket medical expenses
Insurance reimbursement and appeals
Lost wages and caregiving burdens
Post-operative recovery expenses
Financial impacts on treatment decision-making
Formative Interviews
To help inform study design and survey development, WHRAC is currently recruiting individuals who underwent endometriosis excision surgery within the past 24 months to participate in formative qualitative interviews. These interviews will help identify key cost domains, patient experiences navigating insurance and reimbursement, and underrecognized financial impacts associated with care.
